So, you have heard that autoflowering weed plants take much less time to grow than photoperiod plants. Yes, they can go from seed to harvest in about 2 months flat, which is very quickly. Your autoflowering plants still need adequate room for growth. You might only have limited space, so you might have opted for a small 2 x 2 foot grow tent.

Now you are probably wondering how many autoflowers in a 2 x 2 tent can grow comfortably. The short answer is just 1, here is some general information why and what size tents we recommending for growing up to 4 plants. Firstly let’s look at a typical autoflower growth size;

How Big Do Autoflower Plants Get?

One of the benefits of growing autoflower plants is the fact that they generally require less space to grow. Now, they do still require some space, but less than your average photoperiod weed plant.

You should also beware that there is a difference between sativa and indica weed plants, in terms of the space they need. Just for comparison, a photoperiod sativa plant is going to require around 3 x 3 feet of space per plant. A photoperiod indica weed plant will need around 2 x 2 feet of space.

In terms of height, when grown indoors, photoperiod weed plants, both indica and satica, can grow up to 6 feet high. Autoflowering marijuana plants by comparison are much smaller.

In terms of height, when grown indoors, you can expect an autoflower to top out at around 4 feet. Now, when it comes square footage they need to grow comfortably, depending on the exact strain, you won’t need more than 2 x 2 feet.

An autoflower indica strain might need a little over 1 x 1 foot, and an autoflower sativa strain needs anywhere between 1.5 x 1.5 and 2 x 2 feet to grow comfortably.

How Many Autoflowers in a 2 x 2 Tent?

Based on what we have said, in terms of how large autoflower plants need, in all reality, if you want to provide your weed plants with plenty of space, you will only be able to fit 1 autoflower plant in a 2 x 2 foot tent.

2 x 2 feet is not very large, and even the smallest of weed plants, the smallest indica autoflowering plants, will need somewhere between 1 x 1 and 1.5 x 1.5 feet. Therefore, if you don’t want the plants to the cramped in the tent, which they really should not be, one single autoflower is all you should put in a 2 x 2 tent.

Now, you could technically fit more autoflowering cannabis plants in a 2 x 2 foot tent, but you will need to use some special techniques.

More or less, you would need to get one of those cylindrical plant cages, you know, the ones used to keep animals off of tomato plants and other types of plants when growing outdoors. If you get a narrow circular cage that’s no more than 1 x 1 foot, you could technically fit 4 autoflowering plants into a 2 x 2 foot tent.

As long as each plant does not take up more than 1 square foot, those 4 square feet could be enough for 4 plants. However, due to air circulation and lighting issues, this is really not recommended.

What Size Grow Tent For 4 Autoflowering Weed Plants?

Seeing as the largest autoflowering weed plants will need 2 x 2 feet of space, or 4 square feet, this means that 4 autoflowering weed plants will need 16 square feet of space. Therefore, for 4 autoflowering plants, you would need a 4 x 4 foot tent. N

ow, if you keep the plants smaller, so they only need around 1.5 x 1.5 feet of space each, you could probably fit 6 smaller autoflowering weed plants into a 4 x 4 foot tent, but that said, once again, cramping so many weed plants into a small space is not recommended.

Conclusion

The bottom line is that it’s always better to grow slightly fewer weed plants in a confined space, and to give them the best possible conditions, rather than cramping a lot of weed plants into a tight space.

In all reality, for a small 2 x 2 foot grow tent, 1 good sized autoflowering marijuana plant is all that should be inside of it.
